It’s baaaack! Starbucks Rewards customers have a chance to win the wildly popular Bearista Cold Cup, along with other prizes, by playing the coffee chain’s annual holiday game, Starbucks for Life.
The little glass bear donning a green Starbucks beanie and striped straw sparked shortages, fights and long lines. The cup, priced at $29.95, was listed for resale at prices as high as $500, and Walmart even released its own copycat version.
On Sunday, Dec. 7, Starbucks posted an Instagram video that shows a line of four Starbucks signature cups being removed one at a time to reveal the Bearista cup. “Your chance is in the Starbucks app. Tomorrow, 12/8,” the company wrote in the caption.
The Starbucks for Life Merrython was set to launch on Dec. 8 at 4 a.m. PT, but comments on the earlier Instagram video teasing the return of the cup indicated that many customers were struggling to find the game within the app or were unable to log in through the website.
“There’s nothing on the app + I keep getting an error signing in???” one Instagram user commented on Monday. The Starbucks social media account responded, requesting more information.
Another user wrote, “It keeps saying my password is not right I requested reset password like 5 times.”
Starbucks clarified to users in the Instagram comments on Monday that its Rewards members could play the Starbucks for Life game at www.starbucksforlife.com in the U.S. or www.starbucksforlife.ca for those in Canada. If you’re not a member yet, you can download the Starbucks app and create an account or join at Starbucks.com/rewards.
The Starbucks for Life contest runs through Jan. 4 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
More than 600 Bearista cups will be up for grabs as a prize every day through the instant win game, with a limit of one cup per person, according to Starbucks.
The grand prize is “Starbucks for Life,” in which four lucky winners will receive a daily credit for one free food or beverage item for 30 years.
Another prize includes “Starbucks for a Year,” which gives 50 winners a credit every day for 365 days for one food or beverage item. Other prizes include bonus stars that Starbucks Rewards members can redeem for free items, free bakery or drink items, cake pops and digital gift cards.
Players can receive one prize play and one sweepstakes entry per week, and a maximum of two prize plays per day, with opportunities to earn additional plays.
